Went to the Flyers game last night together with a Swiss guy. We got box seats with an open bar and food through his alumni. The beer selection was, mildly put, awful so I didn't do much damage. The food was actually half-decent, better than expected.
Guess I should take advantage and go to games and happy hours while I can, at the end of June I will be needed at home and can't be running around having fun, right?
I know, another boring post. Just feeling too tired and hungry to produce a masterpiece.
XOXO

Double Digits
We are now in double digits until birth and the Wife keeps expanding. It is funny to see how the belly affects her already "stellar" balance, putting on a pair of pants while standing is quite eventful. I am doing my best to be a supportive husband by not laughing...
Sam is getting more powerful each day. Last night he/she showed that placenta who is boss.
I think we are having a boy, the Wife thinks girl. One of us will be right.

Dreaming of Beer
A slow day at work and I start dreaming about brewing beer. Have never brewed before, just been doing a lot of quality control. I'm just thinking it would be fun working my magic and see what deliciousness I can create.
Wonder why I have so many ideas now that I'm having a mini-me. Is it because I worry about getting older and won't have time for fun stuff anymore? That is possibly the case. Or is simply because I have too much idle time on my hands when at work? That is more likely the case.
Nevertheless, names have been picked out for my brews; the unfiltered wheat is called Schuykill; the light pilsner is Hipster Delite; my awesome IPA shall be named Hoppy Hippo. The stout is yet to decided. Do you have any suggestive suggestions?

Stay-at-home dad?
We have started looking for a daycare now that we know where we'll move. Daycare is expensive, very expensive. Sending Sam to daycare for a month will eat up my entire monthly salary. Good thing the Wife can cover rent, food and utilities.
We are pondering if I should be a stay-at-home dad to avoid daycare costs. Since I don't make much money, staying home would not be a big loss for us. I honestly wouldn't mind staying home with Sam and getting know the little monster. How hard can it be to take care of a six-month old?

Car seat; check!
Julie at Buy Buy Baby rocks, she helped us pick out a car seat that fits the Saturn.
With that, our registry is finalized. Bring on the Baby Shower!
The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet, but good. Tried to run on Saturday, but my knee hurt too much after 13 minutes. No Wilmington Half Marathon on 3/27 for me :( That sucks, I was actually looking forward to to run the race.
Sunday was good. Started the day with brunch at Bridgids where we said good bye to Michelle, the bartender, who got a new gig. Then we went on a 4.5 mile walk to South Philly where I got a hair cut and hung out with some friends of the Wife's.
Monday did not start off well. Some douches where out in their backyard smoking at 3 am. Their talking woke us up and even though they went inside after a while, the next smoke break was in 30 minutes. The smoking and talking continued until 5:30 am...
Wish we could leave the city and live more rurally.

Signed, sealed and delivered
Lease signed, bank account empty. We finally signed the lease for our new place, moving in on April 1. Excited to have a tiny backyard where I can improve my bbq-skills. Ribs, chicken, burgers, you name it, I'll grill it.
Next step is to get furniture for Sam (whose size by the way, is equivalent to a small bag of sugar). Crib, changing table and dresser, am I missing anything of importance?

Kicking and Punching
Yesterday it happened. Sam, the little rascal, kicked me! The kick/punch/head butt felt neat. It felt like a rabbit punch, like Sam was punching a speed bag.
Does it feel more real now? To an extent yes, but until I hold Sam in my arms, it will not be 100% real. How real is it now? Don't know, I can't quantify it.
We are still struggling to find a car seat that fits the Saturn. The backseat is not long enough and the car seats we have tried out so far have all been dangling over the edge of the seat. When I grew up, that would not have been a problem, but nowadays it is. Sam is not even allowed to leave the hospital unless he/she is in a safe car seat. Why do they care how we transport our baby home?

Waiting
Still waiting to hear back from the landlord, hopefully we'll get the place so we can start looking and planning for daycare.
Weekend starts today. Going to play squash with S tonight and tomorrow is Philadelphia Craft Beer Festival. Two Swedes and I are going to the Navy Yard to sample several beers.
Sunday morning is christening for baby L. His pappa is Swedish, mamma from Texas (I think). The event will take place at the Old Swedes Church in south Philly, depending on how it is, Sam/papaya will also have his/her christening there. I can do without christening, but the Wife wants it.

Not homeless after all?
Our lease expires April 1. Until yesterday, we didn't have a new place lined up. But then Craigslist delivered and we saw a place in our hood. The house is big and has a decent sized backyard, the big negative is the number of abandoned homes on the block. However, the area is slowly shifting and the homes shouldn't be abandoned much longer. Meeting the owner tonight to sign the application and some other papers, hold the thumbs and we won't be homeless come April 1!
