Thanksgiving

Thursday was Thanksgiving. The Wife and hosted her family and we had a good time. I cooked the turkey and Beano wore a bib with a turkey on it. He didn't get to taste the turkey, instead he tried a tiny amount of sweet potato. He seemed to enjoy it with some loud lip smacking and grunting. However, his stomach didn't seem to digest it as we found a tiny piece of sweet poato in the diaper the following morning.

Beer wise, it was a good day too. The Wife bought some Epic Pale Ale (she is a good Wife) and I had a Southern Tier Pumking Ale with dinner - delicious!

Beano did well the whole day and spent a good amount of time hanging with of the uncles.

Sleep traning is improving, but he still wakes up a few times per night.

Sleep Training

Friday was the first night of Beano's sleep training. The point of the training is to make the baby sooth him/herself to sleep and to limit the number of times the parents (read The Wife) have to get up during the middle of the night. The way you train your baby to sooth him/herself is by making them cry it out and not pick them up whilst fussy and upset in the crib.
So, last Friday was the first night of sleep training and it was... loud at times. We put him down at his normal bedtime, between 19:00 and 19:30 (if you don't know the 24hr clock, hang your head in shame). After ten minutes or so we hear Beano fussing and soon it escalates to full on screaming. Since we are sleep training him, we can do nothing but let him air it out (I once went upstairs to tell him he was safe and it was time to sleep - he didn't listen). After 22 minutes of wailing, he finally calmed down and we could hear him sobbing as he fell asleep.
The following two nights were uneventful and he fell asleep by himself without any crying. Monday night I was put in charge with preparing him for bed and bottle feeding him. The result? Back to square one! I had barely walked downstairs before he started with his fake coughing which then turned into fussing and finally screaming. He didn't cry for as long this time, only twenty minutes.
The Wife doesn't like the sleep training, she says that it hurts her heart to hear him cry like that. I, on the other hand, am a heartless bastard and carry on like I can't hear him.

Tall Boy

The results are in! Beano is 27½ inches tall and weighs 16.65 lbs. He is tall for his age (93rd percentile) but not heavy at all. Tall and slim, just like his mamma bear.

The doctor said everything looked fine, except for his rashes. We were told to lube him up many times a day and his rashes should improve quickly. Were given a list of creams to use on him, I asked if we could dip him in lard.

Next step in his development is the quest to make him sleep through the night. At the moment, he wakes about two times per night but according to his age he should be able to sleep from 20-6. The process of making him sleep for a longer period won't be fun. It requires us to make him cry without us picking him up to comfort and calm him down. We should only observe him and possibly put a hand on him to make sure he is fine, nothing more.

Looks like I'll be a stay-at-home dad and grad student come spring. Had to take the TOEFL to prove my English was good enough for school. I scored 108 out of 120. Next up is the GRE, not looking forward to it.
At the moment I am looking forward to the spring and the changes it will bring. I am sure it won't be easy juggling Beano and school, but I feel now is the time to make a career change before I am too old and even grumpier.

Oh well, one thing at a time. First I have to make it through this afternoon so that I can go home.

Back from.... nowhere

Hello Everybody,

Your favorite non-blogger is finally back! No good reasons/explanations/excuses for not updating the blog with mindless entries other than that I have been a little busier at work lately.

Anyway, Beano is four months old today and he acts like it. His body and mind is rapidly developing and learning how the different body parts work and interact with each other.

For instance, last night when I checked on him, he was sleeping on his belly so I asked the Wife to see if she put him down like that. Nope, she said, looks like the little genius actually managed to roll-over. (Of course as we were admiring his achievement he woke up screaming).

Considering his many rashes (his butt looks good, though), he is a happy and smiley boy. Laughter and smiles radiates in abundance from his kind heart! (Not sure if the previous sentence makes any sense, but you should get the picture).

On Monday is his four month check-up, has he surpassed 16lbs yet?

Beano got an early Christmas present from his kiwi-grandma. It's a Jumperoo which he loves to use. It allows him to stand and jump because just sitting or lying on his back isn't fun anymore. This amazong toy also allows the Wife to eat breakfast in peace as he is happily jumping in one place.

The time is currently 10:40 am, in 20 minutes he will be at baby-yoga with his mother (the Wife). Beano has a tough life...
